A rectangular, embroidered sampler. Multi-coloured silk threads worked in cross stitch on a woollen ground. The textile contains the words: 'On truth; O sacred truth of race divine; on me with brightest influence shine; teach me the righteous path to tread; by they unerring counsilled; our actions rule our souls inspire; and fill us with thy heavenly fire; that we from vice and error free; may still adore and follow thee; Margaret Woolley her work October the . 18 1788'. The imagery is of a large red house flanked by birds sitting on conical-shaped trees. There is also a peacock atop a blue and white striped pillar, two plants in pots, two lions under the canopy of four trees, and a green meandering line framing the text and main motifs.
