sword (weapons: edged); sword sheath (sheath (weapons: accessories))

Sword and sheath. Sword with a straight, single edged pattern-welded blade, curved to the back at the tip, the cutting edge showing signs of wear and damage. Wooden handle bound with plaited cane, widening to pommel at one end, with metal band at the point the blade is inserted. A hand guard attached next to the handle, made of a thin metal disc, pierced with an over-large central hole through which the blade haft passes.

The sheath comprises two long, flat pieces of bamboo, one side with a central opening along over half its length, held together by a two plaited cane bands bound around the outside in the middle, and at the top by a strip of leather that forms a loop, the ends passing through two holds on each side and then knotted. A strap of plaited cane is tied to the top leather loop and the centre plaited cane binding. Attached to the plaited cane strap were two strips of skin with black hair, possibly bear hair. Each strip has a hole at each end, with a small cane loop attached. The plaited cane strap is broken, with a short middle piece detached: most of both skin strips are also detached, with a small part of the end of one still secured to the top of the plaited cane strap.
