flagon (jug (food service))

Long-necked, lipped, silver flagon with a discus-shaped body and handle in the form of a snake. All over the flagon is engraved decoration. At the widest part of the body is a band of scrolled vegetal forms with groups of five leaves, between two narrow borders of floral scrolling. Above this up to the neck, the field is divided into four leaf or petal shapes, which contain five-leafed groups. Above this is another floral scrolled band. The neck has the same pattern as the main body. The handle is formed of a rod in the shape of a snake, its head close to the top with the snake's tail curling up around the handle at the lower end.
