protective charm; doll (pastimes: toys)

One of four painted wooden figures of gods protective of children. It was made by cleaving a square-sectioned block of wood diagonally. The back of the image is plain rough wood, the cut, while the front is roughly carved to represent an anthropomorphic figure and is painted in various colours. The head is surmounted by small strips of wood.
