One of a pair of sleeve pieces for woman’s costume, Monguor (Tu) people, Kumbum, Qinghai province, China, collected August 2003. Two rectangular pieces of material, each formed into a tube by joining at three points with red stitching. Embroidered mostly in satin stitch with a pink floral motif and two pink buds, green leaves and a pair of butterflies on a black ground. Edges embroidered with a strip of white dentate shapes, and two further narrow strips of red and yellow cloth along one end. Lined with blue fabric reinforced with newspaper with Chinese script.
