blanket (clothing: outerwear)

Long rectangular tabby handspun handwoven cotton blanket, pua kumbu, sewn together along the selvedges of 2 narrower pieces. Each is decorated with a warp ikat design in cream, brown with blue detailing on a reddish brown ground. Natural dyes. At each side of the blanket are solidly coloured faded black, cream and red stripes. Towards each end, blue and white plaited yarns are interwoven across the cloth. The ends of the warp are cut to form a short fringe.
