Sleeveless jacket (jelek). Part of woman’s costume from Tetovo, near Skopje, Macedonia. Long sleeveless jacket of cream twill-woven woollen fabric trimmed around the armholes and the front opening and lower hem with black braid, with additional red braid in a double row around the back of the neck and the upper part of the front opening. The waistcoat is formed of three main pieces of fabric, for the back and the two sides of the front, with gussets at each side at the bottom to form a flare below the waist. An integral pocket on the right below the waist trimmed at the edge with red and black braid. Decoration is chiefly at the back below the waist, consisting of sequins, silver-coloured metal thread braid and strips arranged in two traingles with cicrcular motifs within, two semicircles between, and rows of decration along the bottom, the shapes of these designs defined by applied red flannel cut with vrimping shears. The outer edges of the flares are decorated at the front with applied green and red fabric and wrapped strips of silver-coloured metal.
