Wayang wong mask, tapel, depicting Sangut. Mask carved from pule wood, with tiny nose above prominent upper lip. Mouth open with one tooth to each side; aperture below large round eyes. Face painted orange with black, red and white details. Round hole in earlobe. facial hair indicated through four raised mounds along jaw line painted with black and gold swirls, and elsewhere in black paint. Headdress of carved and painted leather with coronet. Tubular projection at rear, which ends in a tuft of hair, is made of wood painted black, while the remainder of the skull cap is covered in black velvet with decorative elements in carved and gilded leather and a strip of leather carved and painted blue and white to each side. Pompom of red wool fixed to either side of the mask above the ears. Hook for hanging at top front behind coronet. Signed by the maker on the inside
