mask (dance & live theatre)

Carved and painted wooden mask of a Jauk Manis. Face painted white, with pairs of curved black lines running from above nostrils to side of mouth, to either side of top of nose and to either side of chin. Eyes are large and projecting, with brown staring pupils. Upper row of teeth only; these are made of shell. A pink artificial gemstone is set above the nose, and above this is a blue artificial gemstone set in a gold plaque on the forehead. Moustache, eyebrows and hairline are represented by animal skin with hair. Secured when worn by a band of black rubber is tied with string which passes through a hole in each side of the mask.
