Wayang wong mask, tapel, depicting the bird Jatayu. Mask carved from pule wood, face painted green with black, red and gold detailing, around beak and eyes. A row of ridges between the eyes above the nose. Sharply projecting pointed open beak has many small white teeth in the upper jaw, fewer in the front of the lower jaw, and two large canines in both upper and lower jaws. Eyes are large, round and inset with glassy material. Integral carved wooden ear at either side. Headdress of carved and painted leather with blue-topped coronet at the front and garuda figure projecting at rear. At the rear of the head is an upward and inward curving projection painted black and gold. Pompom of red wool fixed to either side of the mask at brow level. The headdress is lined in black cloth. Hook for hanging at rear top. Signed by the maker on the inside.
