A Zulu beer basket and lid made of coiled ilala palm fibre (Hyphaene Coriacea) and the Euclea root dye. The basket is bulbous and decorated with triangular and diamond patterns. The lid is a short, wide cone with a concertina folded handle.
The basket was purchased as a tourist item by the donor and may never have been used. Traditionally they were used to hold locally brewed, low alcohol beer used for both social and religious purposes.
