Drinking fermented black tea became very popular in China during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Distinct forms of tea-ware were developed during this time as an art form, and influences from this period can still be seen today. Teapots were made in various shapes and today’s round teapot is based on one of the Ming designs, such as this example from China.
These objects are only a part of our collections, of which there are more than 350,000 objects. This information comes from our collections database. Some of this is incomplete and there may be errors. This part of the website is also still under construction, so there may be some fields repeated or incorrectly formatted information.
