Śahnāī, shahnai: Conical wooden body stained red and varnished. Seven round fingerholes follow a line slightly offset to the player's right. No thumbhole. A long black cord tied to the body below the fingerholes terminates in two green tassels. Tenon at bottom of body attaches bell, although lapping is missing. A lateral groove is cut near top of body, which is unvarnished inside. Top of body is domed and surmounted with a brass staple, which has gold thread around the base and is secured in place.
