Carved wooden wayang wong mask of Hanuman with headdress and tail. 1. Mask. The wooden part of the mask is painted white, the red gums surrounded by a band of black with hairs indicated in white curled lines against the black. A black curved band to either side of the face, with similar white lines. Teeth painted white, prominent canines in lower jaw, and large but less prominent in upper jaw. Bulging eyes with rings of yellow and orange, black at the front. The white ears with black painted curled lines on them have gold painted decorative extensions below. Above the horns, the bump betwen the eyes and the eye sockets themselves, gold jewelled embellishments have been fixed. Behind the whole mask is a leather surround painted red and decorated with a similarly shaped piece of gold painted leather into which has been carved a delicate pattern and onto which are fixed pieces of mirror glass at various points. Signed inside. 2. Headdress and tail. Haddress made of a basketry frame covered in white cotton fabric and surrounded by gold painted carved leather pieces which form a crown at the front, rise at both sides to meet above the head, and which run along the edge of two curved elements, the larger rising from the back of the headdress, sa smaller one curving back from the front of the mask. To this is attached one end of a long tube made of the same white cotton fabric filled with stuffing, which is also fixed to the back curved element at the nape where it is surrounded by a gold leather piece with a small 'wing' and then hangs loose, with a second gold leather 'wing' half way down its length.
