shawl

Silk shawl with all over pattern of gold thread checks forming squares within which are tie-dyed patterns, some a square motif, some trefoil, some floral. The ground fabric is green around the edge, with a large oval in the centre, the main part of which is light brown, but cinnamon coloured around its outer edge. The tie-dyed patterns consist of dots formed by tying knots in the fabric to resist the dye and where this has been done the cloth remains white or in some parts yellow. Although the tying threads have been removed the cloth remains tightly ruched as a result of this process. 24" x 62". India (AF19)
