In Mali, Christians are in the small minority (approx. 5%). The catholic have their own special religious sanctuary in a town called ‘Kita’ (in the Kayes region, about 260km northwest of Bamako). The structure of the sanctuary is dedicated to Notre Dame du Mali, of peace, and it was inaugurated in 1994, which this cloth is commemorating.
