Flute in F. Cocuswood body. Six keys, silver plated and block mounted with flat circular flaps and leather pads. Embossed silver plated ferrules. Three joints. String lapped tenons. Body joint and foot joint each have three keys and three tone holes. Head joint and foot joint stamped: MONZANI & Co.; Body joint stamped: MONZANI & Co./28. REGENT ST/PICCADILLY/LONDON/2036/PATENT; Crown emblem is stamped above each of these keys and on the end of one shank/key flap of body joint. Ferrule on foot joint is hallmarked for 1820. This flute was acquired for the Boosey & Co. instrument collection in the 19th century. The attached label was written by D.J. Blaikley, the manager of the Boosey factory at Stanhope Place, Marble Arch and the first curator of the collection. In the 20th century, the instrument was leant to a number of prestigious exhibitions including the 1900 International Loan Exhibition of Musical Instruments at Crystal Palace, the Music Loan Exhibition held by the Worshipful Company of Musicians at Fishmongers' Hall, London Bridge in 1904 and an exhibition of instruments from the Boosey & Hawkes collection that travelled to New Zealand in 1950.
