Communist Party armband. Cylindrical band of red cotton printed with inscription. Worn by Red Guards, groups of young people who were mobilized by Mao Zedong during the ‘Cultural Revolution’ (The Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution) in 1966 and 1967 to progress the paramilitary social-political movement in the People’s Republic of China. The inscription is written in both Mandarin Chinese and Uyghur New Script, so it is likely that this item was used by Red Guards in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region during the Cultural Revolution.
