The cornemuse is a small bagpipe of French origin. For a time, the instrument was popular in French aristocratic circles, but it also has an important place in the peasant folk music of central France and the Auvergne. In this latter context the instrument is known as the cabrette and is often played in conjunction with the hurdy-gurdy.
