Flute in B flat. Boxwood body with brass ferrules. Holes subject to later alteration: one tone hole is plugged with cork, two have wooden bushes and three have wooden plug/studs. Lowest tone hole has a recess for a possible key shank. Two joints. Conical bore. Head joint is open but stopped inside, possibly with cork. Head joint inscribed: B/T.Prowse/Hannray Street/London; Body joint inscribed: T.Prowse,/London
The instrument has been experimentally altered in a curious way to make a flute alternatively in B flat and C, with extra holes, including a row at the back and semitone holes for little finger etc., unwanted holes plugged with boxwood pegs. (A.C. Baines)
