Clarinet in B flat. African blackwood (grenadilla) body. Mouthpiece and barrel probably ebonite. Nickel silver-plated brass keywork, ligature, cap and ferrules. Fish skin pads. Simple system fingering. Speaker/register key on front of joint. Left hand and right hand little finger keys have rollers possibly of ebonite. Five pieces including mouthpiece. String and cork lapped tenons. Ligature has two butterfly screws for securing reed and is stamped: BOOSEY & Co. LONDON/REGd. 309805; Mouthpiece is stamped: Boosey & Hawkes Ltd./LONDON/B.M.3; Upper joint, lower joint and bell are stamped: BUFFET/Crampon & Cie/PARIS/BC; These latter inscriptions each appear within an oval frame of dots with a lyre emblem above and the initials BC below. The number 5142 is stamped on the reverse of the lower joint.
