A plaited heirloom basket. The basket is made of plaited lontar leaves and worked on the diagonal. The basket is deep and squarish in shape. It is called a "kepepe bela" which means large, or "kepepe pana" which means hot.

The basket may be opened only once a year for checking the condition of its contents at the ceremony 'bui ihi'.

Collection Information

These objects are only a part of our collections, of which there are more than 350,000 objects. This information comes from our collections database.
