Cotton samples showing the five stages of preparation of the cotton before spinning. 1. Raw cotton with seeds (wengu adu or wengu mengeri, considered as the original cotton in cotton in Savu). 2. Cotton is opened, flattened. 3.Using a wooden board or a tortoise shell and a wooden stick, the seeds are rolled out of the fibres. The tool and the process together are called mengeri. 4. Using a bamboo comb or a bamboo knife (kekedi), cotton is fluffed. (Small particles of dirt can be taken out during this process). 5. Additionally cotton is fluffed using a bow (wuhu).
