puppet (stage of manufacture (model theatre))

Sequence/stages of manufacture of a glove puppet. The puppet head is first moulded in Plastolene. From this model, a two-piece mould of gypsum (plaster of paris) is formed.
2001.195.1 & 2001.195.2: paper and glue is pressed in successive layers into both halves of the gypsum mould
2001.195.3: the back of the head is added and sanded smooth
2001.195.4: the smoothed head is mounted on a wooden rod
2001.195.5: the head is painted with a white undercoat
2001.195.6: the the head is then painted with a white plastic emulsion
2001.195.7: the heads is then painted with an orange complexion (features are added later)
2001.195.8 & 2001.195.9: fabric hands made from padded, white gauze are prepared
2001.195.10: finished puppet (name of the puppet: Medi)
2001.195.11: cream bag made from hessian

These stages, demonstrating the process of puppet manufacture, were donated by Master Iskander Hakimov of Bukhara.
