pipe (narcotics & intoxicants: smoking)

A bamboo pipe. The pipe is made from a length of bamboo, with two nodes, one near the base intact, the other in the middle and has been pierced. Between the two nodes is an oblique, rectangular hole that has been cut to take a thinner stem of bamboo, which is the bowl. The external part of this is circular in section, the top edge has been chamfered and is tar-stained; the internal part extends to the bottom node and is rectangular in section. The lower end of the stem and the bowl have been cut to an everted V-shape; the upper end of the stem, the ‘mouthpiece’, has been cut square.
