Shield made from a sheet of untreated crocodile hide shaped thus: with two long sides parallel, one end rounded, and the other pointed. The sheet is folded up centrally into a spine which is hollow on the inside, taking a wooden strut secured by large stitches and bindings of sinew. The strut is bent up towards the centre and thereby forms a hand grip. It projects over the pointed end of the shield.
