hat (clothing: headwear)

Circular shallow cone palm leaf hat, terindak matu, with a peg point, made of sheets of palm leaf held together with ribs of split bamboo radiating from peak to rim. Rim reinforced with red-painted rattan, bound to the hat with beige fibre. Decorated with red- and black-painted panels in the lower part; in the upper part are round overlapping panels in a variety of colours around the point held in place by the radiating red ribs.
