sample (textileworking: dyeing & printing); textile

Rectangular, tabby-woven, cotton sample decorated with white and ikat patterns on a blue-black ground. The textile is seemingly from a longer cloth as both shorter ends appear to have been cut. The pattern consists of a lattice pattern created by white dotted outlines. The fields in the lattice are 2 different sizes. The smaller ones contain a dark blue motif on a white ground. The larger ones contain a white curvilinear and striped motif. Outside the lattice are additional motifs on the longer sides. On one side this is a repeat of the motif contained in the larger fields within the lattice. This is bordered by a white double zigzag on the outside. On the opposite side are small arrow-shaped motifs. The panel is separated from the blue-black edges by a thin white stripe.
