bag (food processing & storage); sago strainer (strainer (food processing & storage))

Sago bag (Bedamuni: ifa taabo). A sago bag of the variety known as ifa taabo (Xylopia sp). In contrast to the other variety of sago bag (agi taabo, 1982.54i), the bottom of the ifa taabo is woven.

Such bags are used for carrying sago from the working place to the village. The wet sago is put in the bag and suspended from the back of the head with the plaited cord. Because of the flexibility of the weaving, the water is squeezed out of the sago during transport. The point formed at the bottom of the bag is called semôkafô, or navel.

This bag was made by Bobame.
