fish hook

Small trolling hook constructed from a curved shank of hard wood, into which is inlaid and tied a lenticular slab of Haliotis shell. This is bound at the end with a snood of muka (processed Phormium tenax fibres). An ivory hook with a single barb is inserted into the other end of the shank, and lashed tightly in place with an elaborate snood of the same fibre.
