Square lid for a chess box, made from pale wood. The underside is lined with red fabric with an embossed pattern. The top has four adjoining carved panels around the edge. The square in the centre of the panels is lined with the same red fabric as the underside. The inner part of the lid (1979.175iii) fits into this centre square.
