tube skirt; textile; tapi'

Woman's cotton tube skirt, 'tapi''. It is made in two equal sized pieces using dark blue cotton fabric (most likely indigo dyed). It has two fine red bands (woven as stripes) alternating with thicker white geometric patterning (framed with red and yellow bands) on a dark blue ground. The patterning is achieved using continuous supplementary warp. The warp ends are sewn together with a French seam and the outer join has a very noticeable white cotton blanket stitch edge. Tube skirts such as this are worn during festivals or ceremonies. [Textile]
