Appliqué piece of blue satin in stylised circular cloud collar shape with eight points terminating in 'ruyi' heads with a border of narrow bands of appliqué white, green and yellow silk. Each of these heads is decorated with a appliquéd design of one of the Eight Symbols of the Daoist Immortals: lotus flower, gourd, sword, flute, flower basket, bamboo musical tubes, fan and castanets. Arranged around a circle at the centre of the piece are six symbols of the scholar: books, scrolls, archaic bronze, lozenge, 'qin' or zither and fruit bowl. The centre itself is delineated in narrow circular bands of applied yellow, green and pink silk. Lined with black damask with patterning consisting of flowering branches. This was probably used as a practice sample for making an appliqué silk cloud collar.
