spike fiddle

Spike box fiddle. The body is formed of the sides of a square wooden box, the table and back consist of stretched skin. A neck of square section is inserted into one end of the body. The neck is pierced laterally by two holes, apparently for two pegs. A black horse-hair string is attached to the one peg and at the other end to a strip of leather itself attached to an iron spike at the foot. A simple criss-cross decoration at the top of the neck. In good condition as far as complete. Restrung 26.7.56 JLJ.
