Cylindrical Drum. Membranophone. Malagasy Republic. A two-headed cylindrical drum with an uncovered wooden body (? a hollowed trunk), the membranes of skin partly cleaned of black hair and secured by a necklacing of fibre and a simple lacing of strips of skin for tensioning: a sling of similar strips. Purchased c.1968-1970. The body partly staved in: otherwise in good condition. Height - c.29.5 cm. Diameter - c.26 cm [overall]. Gift of Miss Theresa Haine, 12 William St., Rugby, Warwicks. 22 Aug. 1975.
This drum was one of a collection of instruments made in Madagascar between 1969 and 1971 by Theresa Haine, and donated to the Horniman Museum.
