Chinese model of a palanquin dating from the late 19th or early twentieth century. The model consists of a palanquin, a seated male figure, and three male bearers. The palanquin and figures are made from a light wood and feature limited decoration done in black and red ink.
Donated to the Horniman Museum by the World Church and Mission Department of the United Reformed Church. Items such as these were used by missionaries to illustrate talks given by the missionaries when they were home on leave.
