One of a pair of crescent-shaped divination blocks, possibly made out of bamboo instead of wood. Flat side shows it was previously infected by pests.
Accompanying note written on envelope reads: ‘’From Formosa, Charms used to how the spirits are feeling! Throw three times: Round sides both up: Spirit angry. Flat sides both up: Spirit laughing at worshipper. One round, one flat up: Spirit pleased- gives answer of peace."
