A circular embroidered fan case decorated with an embroidered scene of a young woman dressed in blue in a boat surrounded by lilies. Beside her is an overhanging willow and a bird, probably a crane, flying overhead.
A cloud pattern is also included on the purple satin background. This image is framed with a narrow, gold-coloured strip with a continuous supplementary warp pattern worked in green, blue, purple, white and metal-wrapped thread. Outside this are couched two lines of metal-wrapped thread, green and cream braiding and a dark blue silk edging fabric. The obverse is made from green tabby woven silk. The case is lined with canvas overlaid with paper. The gusset has a repeating Chinese character, worked in purple on a cream background.
