honey carrier (carrier (food processing & storage)); fat container

Wooden honey container with cowhide top and bottom. It is made from a cylindrical piece of wood with hide wrapped around the base and part-way up the sides. Strips of hide are wrapped around the centre, and it has a strap over the top. Made by women or a Dorobo male craftsman. Pattern on wood made with a knife - cowhide put on when wet and bound with string so that it dries to fit closely- see marks on lid. Men use it when going to collect honey and women sometimes use it to store cow and goat fat.
