There are two further loops at the neck, and a curved front pocket. It is embroidered with peonies, plum blossom, an orchid, and a butterfly motif, showing that this garment is intended for a girl. The peony is symbolic of wealth, plum blossom of longevity, and the orchid of love and beauty. The floral and vegetal motifs are embroidered in satin stitches, which encroach on one another in the flowers. Veins are represented in two of the flowers below the neck, and in the butterfly above the central pocket, by overlain pine needle stitches. In the flower clusters under the neck opening and at the bottom, a circle of seed stitches represents stamens. The design areas are defined by a single row of cream running stitch edged by tiny trefoil shapes spaced regularly alongside in the same thread.
