Necklace.
Necklace of metal beads and connecting metal discs strung onto two parallel cotton threads. The top thread is strung with small silver-coloured beads that are vertically connected to another row of the same beads. Beneath this depends thirteen thin Egyptian coins. The central coin is larger than the others.
Item number 64 on Jeremy Keenan's item list. Egyptian coin necklace called 'elraiysha'. Keenan acquired this object from a Kel Hirafok woman in Tamanrasset at Sidi's. Price paid: 150 dinar. The inscription on the obverse of the large centre coin reads: 'TRAVAIL EN EGYPTE MEDAILLE BRONZE'. The inscription on the reverse reads: 'EGYPTIAN S MEAWAD MEDALLION FOR 1914'.
