Long-necked lute kāca-vīna (kacha vina). The back of a gourd segment with a central indentation where the calyx was located, and a bone tailpiece at the base. The table of red-brown wood, possibly tun wood (Cedrela toona), with the upper section carved with two leaves in relief. The hollow neck is lined with paper printed with a design of flowers within overlapping leaves, with a rectangular glass panel for a fingerboard. Wear on the neck indicates the former presence of fourteen frets. The bone nut is fixed to the base of the peg-box, which was originally built for five pegs (one peg missing) and has a peacock-head finial. No strings or bridge.
Presented to the South Kensington Museum by Rajah Sir Sourindo Mohun Tagore Kt.
