Razor case. Budapest, Hungary. Possibly late 18th Century. Wooden case, vertical sides, slightly tapered, with round ends. The lid pivots horizontally from one end; the lid is fixed on a pin at the opposite end. To open, the lid has to be slid back off this pin, which can only be done when a slat in it is slid away on the same pivot. This latter is kept in place by a wooden peg fitted into a groove. The peg is currently missing. There is decoration on the top of the container, including a flower in a pot, ‘£’ signs and the sun. The sides of the container depict horned animals, human figures with whips, and suns. The decoration is probably burnt onto the surface. The base is very scratched. Purchased in Budapest in 1965 by the donor.
