pipe (narcotics & intoxicants: smoking)

A pipe with a pipe bowl of burnished black clay, decorated with circumferential lines on the upper part and vertical lines round the base. The stem and mouth are made from one piece of unpatterned wood except for a circumferential groove halfway along it. The hole has been burned out, the pipe has not been used. The bowl has been blackening by pouring black dye 'bine' over it after initial firing, then refiring it. It was stuck to the stem by cassava glue; after which the stem was shaved to the same diameter.
