The third stage of making a drinking-cup out of plum wood. The curved shape of the cup has been roughly carved out with a knife, and the inside has been hollowed out. The handle remains as a rectangular piece of wood protruding from the cup.
The drinking-cup is a vessel used on a journey for drinking water. A great deal of skill is required in making this cup. It is made by amateur craftmen. In the region of Hunedoara the making and using of this cup forms part of an old tradition. The axe and saw are used in hewing the wood, and the designing is done with compasses in the first stage. It is carved with the knife and perforated with the borer in the second stage. It is carved with the knife in the third stage. Ornamented with circular design, the long handle is perforated and smoothed with the knife in the fourth stage. In the fifth stage, it is carved and notched with the point of the knife.
