headdress (head ornament)

Headdress. The headdress when sewn together is of oblong shape. It is composed of an oblong-shaped woven textile and a narrow band, which is wrapped around the “bottom” of the cap, giving it the aspect of a bonnet. Tassels (covering the neck and back) are attached to the lower edge of the headdress. Geometrical designs are uniformly repeated over the entire surface of the headdress (except on the hempen band). The designs are multicoloured. This type of headdress is very popular among the matrons of this region. (Homemade hemp thread, purchased cotton and silk thread). Length 260mm, width 160mm. Romanian label stitched on.
