Sandal. Sole uppers are in red leather with incised black designs. The strap is one strip of folded leather, with a thong that goes between the first and second toes. On the strap is a piece of round cloth studded in metal with feather spines emanating from behind it.
These elaborately decorated Hausa sandals with the remnants of ostrich feather decorations would have belonged to an emir or regional chief.
