Basketry hat. Conical in shape, the hat is made of plain twilled work including circular loops at the bottom. It has an oval base, with a thicker reinforcing cane strip on the outside. The exterior decoration consists of alternate red and yellow vertical stripes, made by overlaying the base with twilling in slightly broader sized red cane strips and yellow orchid stem. A thicker cane strip runs from the base at the front end of the oval and over the top of the hat to the rear rim. To this is attached a crest of hair, dyed red at the front and back, and black on the top. Two black feathers are attached to the hat, one each side of the crest, stuck into the basketry.
