Turned and carved tankard with burwood body, hinged lid and handle on three feet each carved in the shape of a crouching animal. On the top of the lid is a central raised decoration of a lion, probably representing the royal lion of Norway, standing on a curved axe and surrounded by concentric circles which cover the rest of the lid. The lid has a thumb lift in the shape of a seated lion, and there is a rosette on the outside of the ends of the hinge pin above the handle.
