Bassoon, fruit wood. Six brass keys, including low F sharp and low E flat, round or spatulate, flat, mounted on saddles. E hole for left first finger bushed. Wing bears evidence of modifications since removed. Wing probably not original. Crook shortened but possibly original. Bell of early type but probably opened. Bottom hole of butt damaged. Brass band on butt loose and cracking. Overall length is 124.9 cm. Length of wing and butt is 90.3 cm. Stamped on butt and bell: Cahusac London 1797.
